Greg Amici

Singer-Songwriter

Gregory Roncalli Amici, born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, grew up in East Brunswick and surrounding towns. While his roots are firmly planted in Jersey, his creative journey has taken him from the heart of Manhattan to Los Angeles and back again. With humor, he calls himself a "count in name only," tracing his aristocratic lineage through Italian family names such as Benedetti, Stalute, and Scala.

Greg found his calling as a musician in high school, inspired by local bands. Picking up the guitar in his late teens, he founded his first band, The Clergy, and later teamed up with a musical partner to form the '80s alt-rock band Junk. Their cover of "The Shape of Things to Come" was featured on the compilation The East Coast 60’s Rock n’ Roll Experiment, produced by longtime friend Matt Pinfield.

In the late '90s, Greg formed Big Honey, a New York-based band with a loyal following. Their rise peaked at the CMJ Music Festival but paused indefinitely when a vocal polyp sidelined Greg for years. Despite this setback, his talent was widely acknowledged, earning praise for his distinctive voice and songwriting abilities from peers within the music community.

Greg’s music defies easy categorization, blending elements of alt-rock, Americana, folk-punk, and beyond. After a 16-year hiatus, he returned to the studio, reuniting with producer James Mastro (The Bongos, Mott the Hoople) and drummer/engineer Ray Ketchem (Elk City) at Magic Door Studio. Over time, the creative process led to Tragicomic, an array of upbeat satires ("Cynthia, Come to Me," "No Fool") and ominous ballads ("Junky Eyes," "In Like a Lion"). In addition to Mastro and Ketchem, former Amici bandmates Joe Gentile (Big Honey) and Tommy Aboussleman (Electric TNT), along with special guests Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith Band) and Renee LoBue (Elk City), contributed to the recording. The album is set to be released shortly.

With singles already available on Spotify and Apple Music, Greg continues to release lyric videos on YouTube and is preparing to support Tragicomic with live performances. A second album, Songs for the Lads to Sing, is also on the horizon, chronicling decades of songwriting with characters ranging from teenagers to 30-somethings.

Greg envisions his songs featured in films and TV while connecting with audiences through authentic, unforgettable live performances. Whether it’s a "serial killer romance" or a biting satire, Greg Amici proves that a Jersey count knows how to count on rock ‘n’ roll.
